Weather is
what we talk about every day. But everyone has different ways to discuss about
it. Sometimes people are in shortage with vocabulary
and expressions while talking about weather. In this blog, we are going to jot
down different styles of speaking on weather followed by masterly vocabulary
for those who want to improve their English.
Style 1: How is the weather?
It is a windy day.
It is freezing outside.
It is humid.
Style 2: What’s it like outside?
It is sweltering.
It’s pleasant.
It’s cold.
Style 3: What’s the temperature?
It is 30 degree Celsius (or Fahrenheit)
Style 4: How the day is?
It’s a rainy day.
It’s a hot day.
It’s a sunny day.
It’s a windy evening.
Style 5: It is + Verb (ing)
It is raining heavily.
It is snowing.
Believe me, like every other stuff, English
has endless ways to speak about weather too. But these above are some most
common ways to talk about weather. Style of responses can be used
interchangeably with any style. Let’s continue with vocabulary for every mood
of weather.
- Drizzle:
Very light raining
Example: We can
go outside. It is just a drizzle.
You have to
go to school. It is drizzling only.
- Torrential
Rain: Very very heavy rain that may disturb routine
Example: It was
forecasted that city will have torrential rains today.
- Shower:
light fall of rain in periods
Example: I really
hate unpredictable shower because I cannot fix anything.
- Clear:
When no rains.
Example: It’s a
clear day.
- Sunny: No
rain + no clouds + pleasant sunny day
Example: Ah! It’s a
sunny day. I think it’s best to hang out.
- Cloudy:
Clouds in the sky.
Example:
It’s a cloudy day and we should postpone shopping.
- Overcast:
Dull day with an overcast of rain.
Example: It’s quite
to be an overcast. I think we shouldn’t sail today.
- Hail
(Hailstorm): Frozen rain.
Example: It was
hailing yesterday.
Hailstorms are
terrible and noisy.
- Blizzard :
Wind + Snow (storm of snow)
Example: Nepal earthquake caused disastrous
blizzard on Everest and killed many mountaineers.
- Gale: A
strong wind
Example: The weather department issued a gale
warning.
- Blustery: A
sudden strong wind (kind of GALE)
Example: It is such a blustery weather.
- Drought: a prolonged period of abnormally low rainfall,
leading to a shortage of water
Example: This area is affected by drought.
- Lightning:
Lightning is like a stroke of light in the sky.
Example: It saw lightning in the sky. It may
rain today.
- Thunder:
rumbling sound that we hear after lightning in the sky.
Example: Thunders are scary, especially during
night.
With constant mood of weather today, if you
keep this vocabulary on your tongue, it will be helpful to talk about weather
among your people.
