Quick IELTS Tips for Listening Module

Are you preparing for the IELTS test and taking IELTS Coaching? If so, this write up comes up with some running tips on how to prepare for the IELTS listening module.

  • The accent of the speaker on the tape is primarily British. So it is good that you practice British accent since many days before the exam. Most of movies that we watch are American and watching these movies are of no use because British accent is far more different from American accent. Better watch British new channels, movies, BBC, etc.
  • Practice pronouncing words in British accent along with remembering their spellings. This is because sometimes, even in listening sections, students are asked to write down spellings of given words. Wrong spellings may cost you your Band in IELTS Listening. Also learn expressions-idioms and phrases in British accent rather than American English.

  • Most importantly, read instructions so carefully. If an instruction says “write three words” then fewer words will cut down your score while more words will not bring more scores to you. So it is important to be instruction specific.
  • Familiarize yourself with graphs, charts and pie-charts and bar-charts, etc. These often appear as part of the answer choices in the fourth section. The more comfortable you are with interpreting the data represented in them, the easier your exam will be.
  • Learn differentiating opinions and facts. Opinions are what a person thinks about something while facts are reality about that particular thing. So it is important that you learn differentiating both as you may need it in the fourth passage.
  • Don’t get discouraged if your friend scores higher than you. Everyone has their own strength and weaknesses. So focus on your goal and target a higher Band score.

Lastly, if you are not able to prepare yourself, you must join any IELTS Institute. If we talk about northern region, there are many good IELTS Institutes in Chandigarh. Such institutes have trained faculty who give you true guidance on how to prepare for IELTS Listening module
