of score. A lot of students don’t know the way to score high in IELTS writing module. So here for your
convenience, we are going to provide you the tips and best way to answer the
questions of the IELTS academic writing task.

There are two types of IELTS examination academic IELTS and
general IELTS. Where writing is one of the four modules in this exam. The
minimum word limit for task 1 is 150 words and 250 words are required for task
2.
Academic writing:
Task 1:
Types of task 1:
- Bar chart, pie chart, line graph, table, flow chart, process and a picture and a combination of more than one chart of different types. The graphs can be of the following types:
- Line graph (generally used to show trend)
- Bar chart (generally used to show comparision)
- Pie chart (generally used to show contribution or sharing)
- Table (can be used to show any of the above mentioned function)
- Process, diagram and flow chart (generally shows the production and manufacturing of anything)
- Picture or map (generally show the transformations at a certain location with the help of two or more pictures)
Points to be followed:
Point 1: prep
(3-4 minutes)
Have a look at the graph and note the kind of graph and try
to understand the pattern of movement or shift of data.
For instance:-
trend or comparison, contribution on or a combination of them. If they contain
time or data or earlier year, then write your response in the past tense and if
no particular time is given, your response should be in present tense.
Point 2:
Look at the most important or striking features of the graph
and you can write some points or a sentence regarding that feature of the
graph.
Point 3:
You should write some verbs and adverbs that can be used in
the description of the graphs. It is very important for you to create such a
list, so that you do not need to stop and think of synonym or a new word while
you are writing the response.
Point 4:
Start writing the response (14-15 minutes) when you have
already invested a few minutes and worked on the graph, you should not find any
difficulty in writing the response while writing, you should also keep the word
count in mind. You should count the number of words that you write for the
first 2-3 lines and then take an average of the words written per line.
Point 5: (editing
2-3 minutes)
Check your response for any errors in spelling or grammar
and you have described the data accurately.

Here we are going to provide you some key points about what
to do and what not to do while answering the IELTS writing module task 1 question:
Do’s of writing task
1:
- Use the appropriate words for the function expressed in the graph, i.e. For a graph that shows the trend, use the words that describe the trend.
- Write complex sentences and try to write a variety of sentences.
- Graph the information properly and combine them in proper sentence.
- In line graph, cover the highest and lowest point.
- In bar chart, cover the most significant and least significant.
- In pie chart cover the field that contributes the most and the field that contributes the least.
- In case of picture or map, you should include all important features and compare them.
- You should use linking words and connectors to link your information logically.
- You must avoid details in process or picture.
- Please so not copy the printed introduction that is given with task in the question paper.
- Avoid repetition of words or verbs when you describe the graphs. You should use the synonyms of the words that you have used already in your response.

Task 2:
In IELTS writing task 2 candidates are asked to write an
essay of minimum 250 words in about 40 minutes. Candidates are given a
statement and after reading statement. You should ensure that it may fall
either of the all the categories:-

Organize ideas into
separate paragraphs: you will lose points if you do not divide your essay
into paragraphs.
Write in complete
sentence: make sure each sentence
you write has an independent clause with a subject and verb. When you use
complex or compound sentences use connectors. For example; religion in today’s
world has become a puppet in the hands of politicians which helps them to
exploit religious feeling.
Avoid repetition of
words and ideas: your ideas should move from one to the next logically and
you should show off your vocabulary.
Write full words: don’t
use abbreviations in IELTS writing
module.
Avoid slangs: present
your ideas without using slang language.
Thoughtful and
natural tone: academic formal writing has a very careful and thoughtful
tone.
Avoid using personal
words: personal words like; I, we, he, she, you, me should not be used as
it makes academic writing informal.
Avoid apostrophe
words: don’t use apostrophe words like can’t, don’t.
What is your perspective on the essay question:

For example:
Q. Increasing the
rates of petrol can reduce traffic problems. Discuss.
How to solve:
There is no denying the fact that inclining the prices of
fuels can plunge traffic congestion. My perspective on this topic will be
highlighted in the upcoming paragraphs.
Bp1+ Bp2 :- each body paragraph should present one main
point.
Conclusion:
In IELTS writing
module, the conclusion should be one or two sentences long. Simply conclude
and extract main point from the passage and close your essay.
